About Ukousa Financial
Ukousa Financial provides life insurance, disability and income protection, funeral cover, insurance policy reviews, personal and business financial planning and retirement planning, alongside business consulting for South African business owners. Insurance and advice are rendered through appropriately licensed advisers under the FAIS Act. Business consulting is a separate, unregulated service and is available immediately.
Services
What Ukousa Financial does, and what each of it actually involves.
Life insurance
Life cover sized to what your family actually needs — bond, education, income replacement — rather than a round number.
Disability and income protection
Cover that replaces income if illness or injury stops you working. The most commonly underinsured risk for self-employed South Africans.
Funeral cover
Immediate-payout cover for funeral costs, for individuals and extended family.
Insurance policy reviews
An independent read of what you already pay for. Most people carry overlapping cover on some risks and none on others.
Financial planning
Goal-based planning covering savings, protection, debt and estate considerations.
Retirement planning
Retirement annuities, preservation and drawdown planning.
Business consulting
Strategy, pricing, operations and growth planning for owner-managed South African businesses. No licence required, no product sold.
Business continuity cover
Key person cover, buy-and-sell agreements and contingent liability cover for business owners.
How it works
Four steps, and you know what happens at each one before you commit to anything.
- DiscoveryWhat you earn, what you owe, who depends on you, and what would happen financially if you stopped earning tomorrow.
- AnalysisExisting policies read line by line. Gaps, overlaps and exclusions identified before anything new is proposed.
- RecommendationA written recommendation with the reasoning shown, including what we are not recommending and why.
- ReviewAn annual review, because cover that fitted three years ago rarely fits after a bond, a child or a business.

Frequently asked questions
How much life cover do I need in South Africa?
A common starting point is enough to settle all debt including the bond, plus ten to fifteen times annual income to replace earnings for dependants, plus education costs for children. The right figure depends on your obligations and existing cover, which is what a proper needs analysis works out.
What is income protection and do I need it?
Income protection pays a monthly benefit if illness or injury prevents you from working. It is the most commonly overlooked cover in South Africa, particularly among self-employed people who have no employer sick pay and no group scheme behind them.
What is the difference between a broker and a financial adviser?
In practice both must be licensed under the FAIS Act. What matters more than the label is whether the person is tied to a single insurer or can compare across the market, and how they are paid. Ask both questions before you take advice from anyone.
Is the first consultation free?
Yes. The initial discovery and review of your existing cover carries no fee. Where advice leads to a product, commission is disclosed to you in writing before anything is signed.
